My name is Eleni, an artist from Cyprus. Painting for me is a means of expressing my innermost thoughts and emotions. While my journey as an artist has been largely self-directed, my passion for art and dedication to learning and mastering the techniques of the Old Masters has driven me to where I am today.
My artistic work primarily gravitates towards still life, with flowers being my main subject of focus. The vibrant colours, delicate textures, and inherent beauty of flowers, often overlooked in our day-to-day life, become the canvas on which I weave my narrative. I draw inspiration from the simple yet profound joy of observing these blossoming beauties in my garden, capturing the essence of their existence into my own art.
Creating a sense of movement within the realm of still life is what I strive for in each of my pieces. I aim to encapsulate the inherent dynamism of flowers. To achieve this, I meticulously use a multi-layering technique with oil paints, mirroring the Old Masters' methods. This technique not only offers greater control in rendering delicate details but also breathes life into the inanimate, creating an illusion of flowers caught in a gentle dance.
My canvases of choice are archival-prepared linen panels, known for their longevity and superb texture, further complementing the multi-layer technique. Each layer of paint contributes to a sense of depth and complexity, giving my artwork a distinct sense of motion and realism.
In every piece, my goal is to invoke the same emotions that the Old Masters once did, and to shine a spotlight on the intrinsic beauty and motion of nature's simplest creations. As I continue my artistic journey, I look forward to pushing boundaries and redefining what it means to portray 'still' life in art.
